Why is high Elevation so important?
The current building code mandates an elevation of 12 feet. Previously, it was set at 11 feet 4 inches last year, and even lower in earlier years, around 9 feet 4 inches or so. When Hurricane Ian hit Cape Coral in 2022, the older sections of the city with lower elevations experienced significantly more flooding compared to the newer areas. In fact, all the homes that were inundated belonged to older neighborhoods with reduced elevation. This serves as a crucial point in favor of constructing your new home on elevated ground.
Why is an honest Builder so important?
We`ve been through the good and the bad of the homebuilding journey and can deliver a personalized and impartial view on the subject.
There are a lot of builders in Cape Coral to choose from. From my personal experience I can tell you: there is the good, the bad and the ugly. We happened to pick one of the ugliest with our first choice. This was a big, well known company named B…..
They took our downpayment as well as the ones of many others and stole it. They left dozens of homes half finished and the owners broke and desperate. The company just disappeared leaving nothing but shambles. Sorry to say, but this is a bad tradition in fast growing Cape Coral. There`s been a lot of building companies that ended like that!
With our second try we were lucky to pick an honest builder. It is this one trusted builder that I can truly recommend from my own experience. This blog is made to keep records of our building journey with our trusted Builder.

After picking our permit, we started building on August, 1st, 2024. The seawall has been built earlier. Both seawall and permit will require around 4-6 months waiting time, depending on the circumstances. Follow our building blog in chronological order to see the single steps and their timeframe being performed.
